Throughout Scripture, we see references to various heavenly rewards, but one of the most compelling is the Crown of Life. This crown is mentioned in James 1:12 and Revelation 2:10, where it is promised to those who endure trials and remain faithful to God, even unto death. As followers of Christ, especially those engaged in missions work, this crown serves as both an encouragement and a reminder of the eternal reward awaiting those who persevere in faith.

Worship Song for this study
Each Bible study post will have a song that I have chosen to go with the study.
I advise you to play the song while you read through the study and complete the Heart Check Questions.
After completing all the study work, I usually sit silently and let the song play a little louder and really concentrate on the words and how you can apply them to your life and this study.
What is the Crown of Life?
The Crown of Life is a symbol of victory for those who remain steadfast in their devotion to Christ despite hardships.
- James 1:12 (NIV): “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.”
- Revelation 2:10 (NIV): “Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer… Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.”
Unlike worldly crowns that fade, this crown represents eternal life and the joy of being in the presence of Christ forever. It is not earned by human effort but given by God to those who love Him and endure in faith.
The Call to Missions: Not Just for Full-Time Missionaries
Many believers assume that missions work is only for those who dedicate their entire lives to it, but that is not true. Every Christian is called to be part of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20), whether as a long-term missionary, a short-term volunteer, or a sender who supports others through prayer and resources.
Short-Term Missions: A Powerful Opportunity
Short-term missions trips—whether for a few days, weeks, or months—are a vital way to serve in God’s Kingdom. They allow believers to:
- Experience the urgency of sharing the Gospel firsthand.
- Support full-time missionaries who need encouragement and practical help.
- Witness God working in different cultures and communities.
- Step out of their comfort zone and grow in faith.
Many who serve on short-term trips return forever changed, with a renewed passion for evangelism and a deeper commitment to their faith. Some are even called into full-time missions as a result.
Every Christian Has a Role in Missions
Even if you are not called to a foreign country, you are still called to the mission field. Your workplace, neighborhood, and community are full of people who need Jesus. Whether by sharing the Gospel with a coworker, helping a local ministry, or supporting missionaries abroad, you are actively participating in God’s work.
Romans 10:14-15 reminds us:
“How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent?”
If you can’t go, you can pray, give, and send others. No role is too small in the mission of God.
Support Missions: Be Part of the Work!
I am excited to share that I will be going on a mission trip to Costa Rica in July 2025, where I will be serving communities, sharing the Gospel, and supporting local ministries. If you feel led to partner in this mission, you can be part of God’s work by praying, giving, or helping send me on this trip.
Your support will:
✅ Help provide resources for ministry outreach.
✅ Support local churches and communities in need.
✅ Allow the Gospel to reach people who have never heard it before.
If you’d like to give toward this mission or learn more about how you can help, please reach out! Every gift, big or small, makes a difference in advancing God’s Kingdom.
Conclusion: Will You Answer the Call?
The Crown of Life is a powerful reminder that faithfulness to Christ, even through trials, is worth it. As we engage in the Great Commission—whether through full-time missions, short-term trips, or supporting those who go—let us do so with endurance.
Not everyone is called to full-time missions, but everyone is called to participate in missions in some way. Whether by going, sending, giving, or praying, you can be part of spreading the Gospel to the ends of the earth.
How is God calling you to be involved? Will you take a step of faith and join in His mission, knowing that every act of obedience will be rewarded in eternity?
Let’s press on, knowing that one day we will hear those words from our Savior:
“Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:23).
